Overview

EVB Engineering was retained to complete a Schedule “B” Environmental Assessment to find a solution for the Fennell Crescent Sewage Pumping Station (SPS) which was reaching the end of its useful service life, had outdated controls and communication abilities, and had physically restrictive access and no backup power due to its location.

Following the evaluation of five alternative solutions, it was determined, with the involvement of public consultation, that a new sewage pumping station should be built on a property adjacent to the existing site.  Following the completion of the EA, EVB assisted the City with property acquisition of the required property.

EVB Engineering was also retained for the design of the recommended infrastructure and for the provision of construction administration services. The new SPS has a rated capacity of 40 L/s and included the following design elements:

  • A new building designed to match the neighbouring dwellings,
  • New influent sewer from existing system to new wet well,
  • A 2.4m by 3.0m rectangular wet well with approximately 5.4 cubic meters of storage.
  • Two (2) submersible pumps (duty/standby configuration) with VFDs.
  • A new 150mm diameter forcemain discharging to an existing sewer located on Twelfth St.
  • All instrumentation and control required to comply with the City of Cornwall’s design standards.
  • A 25 kW diesel standby generator with an acoustical enclosure and a sound attenuation wall between the generator and the nearest residential unit.
  • Civil works on the site and adjacent streets.
